All applicants for a Student visa must show they are coming to Australia temporarily to gain a quality education. You will find that this is the most common reason for the refusal of student visas due to insufficient information provided regarding genuine temporary entrant requirement .
What evidence and information to include in your GTE statement?
Circumstances in your home country
Provide a statement explaining that you have strong ties to your home country. It is important to explain ties to your home country that support an intention to return after study is finished. It can be that you have family in your country, you have property or other assets on your name, employment opportunities in the industry you are intending to study.
The department of Home Affairs may consider other factors not to return to your home country such as
Political or civil unrest in your home country
Military service commitments
Reason for choosing the course and the specific education provider
- How will the course benefit your future?
- How is the course related to your previous studies?
- If this course is not related to your previous studies, why have you decided to change your career path?
- What do you know about this course?
- What do you like about the course structure?
- Are you aware of the full cost of this course?
- If you are employed, you should also provide information if this employment is related to your future studies in Australia It’s important to provide a reason for not studying in your home country or region if a similar course is available there. Explain, what research have you done into Australian college/Universities that has led you to choose the specific education provider. You can explain how the study in your country is different compared to studies in Australia. It can be duration of the course, content of the course, education systems of the countries or any other factor you may consider is relevant. It is important to do research and explain why you have chosen the city in Australia to study. It can be living cost and things you like about the city.
Value of the Course to your future
You should provide a statement that how the proposed course will assist you in your future career.
It can be that it is related to current employment, increase chances of better employment or higher paying employment opportunities. You can explain
How much do you expect your monthly salary to be after you complete your education in Australia?
Will the course allow you to gain skills which could help you make more money?
How does this compare to the salary you would receive if you did a degree in your own country? Why is studying in Australia a good investment for your future?
Potential situation in Australia

Your immigration history
The Department of Home Affairs consider your previous visa applications for Australia or other countries. They also consider your past visa refusals or cancellations.
Generally, as an applicant you can provide a personal statement in English addressing the GTE requirement. If you are not comfortable writing it in English, you can write your statement in your own language and submit a translated copy with your application.
You can provide further details of the written statement in the application form or attach a separate document with supporting documents.
It is recommended you provide evidence for the information you provide in your written statement. Generic statements unsupported by evidence will not be weighed heavily in the GTE assessment.
