The Migration Program has been designed to drive economic recovery and social cohesion in post-pandemic conditions. This program includes 160,000 places with the following composition:

  • Skill (109,900 places) – The Skill stream was designed to improve the economy’s productive capacity and fill skill shortages in the labor market, including those in regional Australia.
  • Family (50,000 places) – The Family stream consists of about 50,000 visas. Partner visas are the majority of these, allowing Australians to reunite with family members overseas.
    • From 2022-23, Partner Visas will be granted on a demand-driven basis to help reduce the Partner Visa pipeline and processing times.
    • Partner visas are estimated to provide 40,500 visas by 2022-23.
    • 3000 Child Visas are estimated for 2022-23. This isn’t limited by a ceiling.
  • Special Eligibility (100 places) – A visa for people with special circumstances, including permanent residents returning to Australia after a period overseas.
