With a Carer Visas you can provide care to someone who has long-term medical conditions and requires your support and care in everyday aspects of life, then you may be eligible to apply for this Visa.

Carer Visa - Subclass 836
This permanent visa lets you stay in Australia to care for someone with a long-term medical condition who has no reasonable access to care options in Australia.

  • be in Australia when you apply for the visa and when we decide your application
  • be a carer for your Australian relative who needs care or a member of their family who lives with them and needs care and who has no reasonable access to care in Australia
  • be sponsored by an eligible sponsor

    • How long you can stay

  • This is a permanent visa. It lets you stay in Australia indefinitely.
  • For citizenship purposes, your permanent residence starts on the day we grant the visa.

  • You must be in Australia when you apply and when we decide your application.

    • Carer Visa - Subclass 116
    This permanent visa lets you move to Australia to care for someone with a long-term medical condition. They must have no reasonable access to care options in Australia.

    With this visa you can

  • move to or stay in Australia as a permanent resident
  • work and study in Australia
  • travel to and from Australia for 5 years
  • sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
  • apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible

    • You must

  • be outside Australia when you apply and when we decide your application
  • be sponsored by your relative or their partner for your first 2 years in Australia
  • provide care for a relative, or a member of their family who lives with them, who has no reasonable access to care options in Australia

    • How long you can stay

  • This is a permanent visa. It lets you stay in Australia indefinitely.
  • For citizenship purposes, your permanent residence starts on the day you enter Australia on the visa.

  • You must be outside Australia when you apply and when we decide your application.
