Australia Is Now Offering Priority Skilled Visas To Nurses and Teachers

Australia is in need of more professionals, especially nurses and teachers. This has caused
the Australian government to implement a new system that places priority on certain
occupations. Applications for skilled visas are now assessed based on their profession’s
demand in Australia, with those professions most in need given weightage.
This change replaced the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL), which was
ineffective due to its large list of occupations, many of which were not critically lacking in
skilled workers. High-demand occupations such as nurses, primary school teachers,
secondary school teachers and special education teachers will have priority when it comes
to processing visa applications for skilled professionals seeking residency or citizenship in
Australia.

Skilled visa applications will be processed in the following order of priority:​

• Visa applications in relation to a healthcare or teaching occupation.
• For employer-sponsored visas, visa applications where the applicant is nominated by
  an Approved sponsor with Accredited Status.
• Visa applications in relation to an occupation to be carried out in a designated
  regional area.
• For permanent and provisional visa subclasses, visa applications that count towards
  the migration program, excluding the Subclass 188 (Business Innovation and
  Investment (Provisional)) visa.
• All other visa applications.​

following high-demand occupations:
● School teachers
● Counsellors and psychologists
● Nursing support workers
● Childcare workers and child care centre managers
● Medical scientists
● Social workers
● Aged and disabled carers
